What Would Women Do?
What would women do
If we did not feel small
If we did not feel unintelligent
If we did not believe that how we look is more important than what we have to say?
What would women do
If we saw ourselves as we truly are
and not through the lens of internalized messages of insignificance, powerlessness and servitude?
What would women do
If we stopped colluding with the silencing of ourselves
If we no longer subjugated our needs
If we not longer disrespected our minds
If we no longer dismissed our labor
If we honored our knowings?
What would women do
If we did not heed the oppressive training
taught and enforced by those who did not want to do us harm but because they were stuck heeding their own training, did just that?
What would I do
If as I was writing this now, I did not endlessly edit, questioning, critiquing, doubting the worth of my voice?
What if in response to the the voice in my head and coursing though my body demanding
"Who do you think you are?”
I answered, “I am one with a mind and a voice worth sharing.”
What if I knew that I never needed to even consider this question?
What if all women knew that?
I’d love to find out.
I want to meet and embody my unbridled, uncensored, unmodified self
I’d like to see what she would do
I think it would be quite something.
